President & CEO
Curtis Philippon originally joined Certarus as the Vice President Finance & CFO in June 2014. Curtis has over 15 years of leadership experience in both operational and finance roles. Prior to his appointment at Certarus he was the operational Vice President at Enerflex responsible for the compression rental fleet, retrofit engineering services and sub-1500HP compression fabrication for Canada & Northern USA. Mr. Philippon spent 9 years in senior management roles at Enerflex and its predecessor company Toromont. Curtis was also a Controller at both Cathedral Energy Services, an international drilling and completion company and International Paper, an international forest products company.
Curtis holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Alberta, a CPA CMA designation and a MBA from the University of Calgary.
Vice President & Co-founder
Nathan Ough has ten years of oil and gas industry experience of which the majority has been focused on the energy service market in both Canada and the United States. Prior to Certarus, Mr. Ough worked on Macquarie Capital’s Global Energy Investment Banking Team covering the international junior and intermediate energy markets.
Mr. Ough holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance and Economics from the University of New Brunswick.
VP Finance & CFO
Janet Burrows joined Certarus in March, 2017. Janet has nearly 20 years of experience in the oil and gas industry. Prior to joining Certarus, Janet spent 14 years with ARC Resources Ltd where she held a number of positions of increasing responsibility including the Company Controller and Manager of Treasury and Taxation. Janet is a Chartered Accountant and holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Calgary. Janet is active in the community and is currently serving as the Treasurer and a Board Member of Making Changes Association.
Canadian & Northern US Operations Manager
Michael Fuerbringer brings more than 25 years of oil and gas experience in drilling and completions, gas compression service and manufacturing. Mr. Fuerbringer held previous Operations and Sr.Project Management positions at Enerflex, Toromont and Collicutt Compression, where he was responsible for the overall operations, implementing strategic growth initiatives, as well as guidance for field operations within Canada and the northern United States. Mike has comprehensive leadership, business development and project management training.
Southern USA Operations Manager
Aaron brings over 10 years of experience in the energy industry in engineering and operational roles. Prior to joining Certarus, Aaron was a founding employee at OsComp Holdings, a fellow CNG virtual pipeline company focused on oil field services in the US. At OsComp, Aaron held various responsibilities including engineering, project management, operations management, and executive level. Previously, Aaron worked at GE Oil & Gas in various engineering roles focused on custom turbomachinery manufacturing and repairs.
Aaron holds a Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Lafayette College and a Masters of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology.
Canadian Sales Manager & Co-founder
Paul Horton with a B.A.Sc in Chemical Engineering from the University of Waterloo has project management, engineering, and business development experience in oil and gas, alternative energy and automotive industries with both multi-international and start-up companies. Mr. Horton has also held board positions with Snowboard Canada and Motionball.
HSE & Transportation Manager
James has built a strong understanding of operational safety through field and supervisory experience in residential and commercial construction, mechanized agriculture, and trucking and rail operations. He is an experienced driver trainer and Class 1 driver. James holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Supply Chain Management from the University of Calgary.
Engineering Manager - Field Equipment
Alasdair Robinson has over 20 years of experience as a mechanical engineer working with compressors and rotating machinery. Prior to joining Certarus, Alasdair worked for 9 years as Engineering Manager of the Rentals & Retrofit group at Enerflex where he supervised a team of engineers and project managers as they delivered creative solutions to their customers to optimize the use of their compression equipment. Previously, he spent several years working for a vibration research group with SKF in Sweden studying the dynamic behavior of rotating equipment. Alasdair is registered Professional Engineer in Alberta and Saskatchewan and was previously on the executive committee for the Alberta chapter of the Canadian Machinery Vibration Association.
Engineering Manager – Facilities
Rod Saville, P. Eng, has 22 years of experience in the Oil & Gas industry. Mr. Saville has worked in a consulting role troubleshooting field equipment, as operation’s manager for a compressor rental fleet, designing and managing facility projects for various producers while in an EPCM role and most recently as the senior facilities engineer for a small E&P.
Mr. Saville received his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of New Brunswick.
Denyel Sears joined the Certarus team in 2014, focusing on corporate governance and financial reporting. Ms. Sears is a CPA, CGA with 15 year of financial experience in varying capacities. Prior to joining Certarus Denyel held the positions of Divisional Controller and Assistant Controller at Enerflex Ltd. and Corporate Controller at GLBH Corporate Services.
Ms. Sears holds a Bachelor of Commerce, with Distinction from the University of Alberta.
Board of Directors
Mr. Estey's principal occupation is as a Corporate Director. Mr. Estey is the retired Chairman of UBS Securities Canada Inc., a financial services company, and has more than 30 years of experience in financial markets. Mr. Estey joined Alfred Bunting and Company as an institutional equity salesperson in 1980 after working at A.E. Ames & Co for seven years. In 1994, Mr. Estey became the head of the Canadian Equities business, and in 2002 Mr. Estey was appointed President & Chief Executive Officer of UBS Securities Canada Inc. In January 2008, Mr. Estey assumed the role of Chairman of UBS Securities Canada Inc. Mr. Estey is a director and Chairman of Gibson Energy Inc., a TSX-listed oil and gas company, and a lead director of New Gold Inc., a mining company listed on the TSX and the New York Stock Exchange ("NYSE"). Mr. Estey also serves on the Advisory Board of the Edwards School of Business.
Don MacDonald is the founder and Chairman of Calgary-based Sanjel Corporation, Canada’s largest independently owned oilfield services company. Under Mr. MacDonald’s direction, Sanjel has evolved from a one-truck operation in 1982 to a global oilfield services company with more than 3,500 employees in over 30 global locations. Mr. MacDonald is a Professional Engineer and a current member of APPEGA. Don is a former member of the WestJet Board of Directors.
Director & Co-founder
Ten plus years of experience in the oil and gas finance and investment industry. Mr. Woitas holds an MBA and a Bachelor of Commerce in Finance from the University of Calgary.
Mr. Woitas has been a director and partner at Calmar Capital Corp. (an energy focused private equity and merchant banking firm) since December 2010. Prior to joining Calmar, Mr. Woitas spent seven years in the Oil & Gas Investment Banking Group with Tristone Capital Corp. and Macquarie Capital. In addition to being a director and co-founder of Certarus, Mr. Woitas is also on the board of directors of Rolling Hills Energy Ltd. (Chairman), Turnstone Energy Inc. and Mediterra Energy Corp.

Mr. Tetley holds a Bachelor of Law and a Bachelor of Commerce in Finance from the University of Calgary. Mr. Tetley is in the corporate finance and securities group of Burnet, Duckworth & Palmer LLP and has a wide range of experience in corporate governance, equity financings and M&A transaction work. Mr. Tetley is currently the corporate secretary of Madalena Energy Inc. (TSXV: MVN) and a member of a Private Funds Independent Review Committee for Deans Knight Capital Management Ltd.
