Asphalt plays a pivotal role in modern society, providing increased mobility for people, goods, and services. Used to construct roadways, runways, sidewalks, and bike paths, among other transportation surfaces, it’s key for progress and socioeconomic growth. However, manufacturing the material has not always been the most energy-efficient process.

When pipeline gas is not available, Certarus is here to help improve your asphalt manufacturing capabilities by bringing the gas to you with end-to-end compressed natural gas (CNG) solutions. We specialize in the compression, transportation, and integration of natural gas into asphalt production facilities by creating a virtual natural gas pipeline. The elimination of diesel, fuel oil, waste oil and propane fuel dependency reduces operating costs and environmental degradation.

Certarus helps mobile and stationary Asphalt plants gain a competitive edge through lower fuel prices and reduced maintenances costs. CNG burns hot and clean, delivers a consistent fuel quality and won’t dirty your filter bag house. Contact us today for more information about CNG for asphalt plants.

Advantages of CNG

Compressed natural gas, or CNG, is a fuel that can be used in place of liquid fuels to power structures, equipment, and devices. CNG combustion produces fewer undesirable gases than those fuel sources. Additional benefits of CNG include:

  • Cost-effective
  • Better performance than petroleum-based fuels
  • Environmentally friendly
  • Lower maintenance costs
  • Higher BTU content than LNG or propane
  • Smaller footprint when compared to LNG

CNG also gives off little to no emissions while refueling, which is safe for the operator as well as the environment. In the event of a spill, it quickly dissipates instead of contaminating soil and water sources, curbing fire or explosion risks commonly associated with other fuels.

The Certarus Advantage

When construction crews use asphalt to build new transportation routes or revamp existing ones, time is of the essence. Transit corridors must be re-routed or closed, which negatively impacts commuters and businesses alike. That’s why Certarus takes care of everything when supplying natural gas, enabling asphalt manufacturers to focus on core processes.

As a leading CNG solutions provider for North American commercial and industrial applications, we have the nation’s largest CNG trucking fleet and unrivaled natural gas access. Our team seamlessly creates virtual pipeline systems, which consist of pipeless CNG deliveries from permanent or portable hubs and onsite decompression. Advantages of this process include:

  • A safe, clean, and reliable solution
  • Automated dispatch and scheduling
  • Redundant supply points

The Virtual Pipeline

The CNG virtual pipeline system begins with the delivery of CNG from permanent hubs strategically located across North America. They are capable of supplying up to 10,000 MCF of instantaneous natural gas per day, which is sufficient for high-volume end-users. These technologically driven hubs are capable of filling high-capacity CNG trailers in less than one hour.

CNG is safely transported to asphalt production facilities using large-volume transport trailer systems. They can carry up to 620 MCF of CNG per load. Upon arrival, the natural gas is distributed through composite tubes that can operate at pressures up to 4,200 pounds per square inch, or PSI.

Harsh environments don’t impact Certarus CNG deliveries. We have custom CNG decompression stations, which use pressure-reduction systems for cold and hot weather mobile gas depressurization. This offers the following advantages:

  • Trailer-mounted CNG decanting station
  • Capable of delivering gas at specific pressures and temperature to multiple consumers at once
  • Remote monitoring enables real-time information
  • Ability to operate and decant, or depressurize, as an unmanned unit
  • Metering and custody transfer happens at the production site
  • Fully automated daily ticketing

Supply Advantage

Asphalt is one of the world’s most widely used transport surface construction materials. Manufacturing facilities often work around the clock to meet asphalt demand. Luckily, there’s enough natural gas to support that workload.

North America has one of the most developed natural gas infrastructures globally. With abundant domestic supplies and recent technological advancements, CNG is the fuel of the future. It’s the cleanest-burning hydrocarbon fuels, which is great for asphalt manufacturers trying to decrease carbon emissions.

With multiple regional supply points across North America, Certarus sources and compresses natural gas locally. Using locally sourced natural gas supports the communities we supply.

Certarus is Ready to Help

Reduced energy usage is increasingly important for industries, businesses, and consumers. Becoming more energy efficient is crucial for environmental protection.

Optimize your asphalt production process with high-quality CNG from Certarus. We create cost-effective, turnkey carbon-reduction solutions utilizing abundant, low-cost North American natural gas.
